The journey of this single malt begins with an eight-year sojourn in American white oak bourbon casks, where it acquires a smooth, gentle character. Dr. Bill Lumsden, enchanted by this mellow spirit, sought out the rare Palo Cortado casks, a sherry variety birthed from serendipity when the 'flor' yeast fails to form on intended Amontillado sherry. This unique characteristic intrigued Dr. Bill, leading him to marry Glenmorangie's whisky with this sherry's sweet and nutty profile, resulting in a dram of unparalleled depth and elegance.
Pour this whisky, and you're greeted with a visual treat of burnt amber. The nose wafts a symphony of rich toffee, fudge, and vanilla, intertwined with mossy undertones and hints of mulled wine. A deeper inhalation reveals honeyed ginger, milk chocolate sprinkled with cinnamon, and with a touch of water, vibrant notes of orange sherbet and Brazil nuts come to the fore.
